Sunderland hope crowd numbers win Mido deal

Sunderland boss Roy Keane hopes to hear from Tottenham striker Mido this morning about the prospect of moving to Wearside.

The JournalGareth Southgate remains the favourite to secure the striker's signature - with the 24-year-old understood to favour a move to Middlesbrough, despite Sunderland's best efforts to lure him to Wearside.

Keane will hope the Premier League's opening afternoon could help swing the deal back in his favour. Just 25,000 supporters watched Boro lose at home to Blackburn at the weekend, whereas almost 20,000 more watched Sunderland's dramatic win over Tottenham.
