Sunderland failed with a move for Stoke City defender Geoff Cameron yesterday.

The Sentinel says the inquiry received short shrift from Stoke because of the American international's increasing value to the cause.

And it is not thought the Cameron inquiry was linked to Stoke's on-going pursuit of Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole.
