Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is set to miss out on PSG striker Mevlut Erdinc.
The Daily Star says O'Neill wanted him on loan for the rest of the season, but the 24-year-old has sealed a £5.5m move to Rennes from Paris St Germain.
Fulham and Galatasaray were also in the running for Erdinc, who rejected Newcastle last summer.
Erdinc's decision leaves O'Neill still without a January signing.
