Sunderland are eager to find a buyer for Cristian Riveros.
The Journal says Black Cats boss Steve Bruce decided to get rid of Riveros in the aftermath of Sunderland's FA Cup exit at the hands of Notts County after the midfielder had pleaded with him for a first-team chance.
Bruce had tried to be patient with the South American as he adapted to English football but, having signed Sulley Muntari to play in the centre of midfield, he has told Riveros he can go.
He is expected to return to South America with three Brazilian clubs, including Corinthians, interested in him.
