Sunderland defender Patrick van Aanholt has dislocated his shoulder.
Van Aanholt suffered the injury in victory at Crystal Palace.
The Dutchman, 24, was injured when he tackled Palace's Wilfried Zaha during the first half at Selhurst Park.
"He has dislocated it. Now it is about finding out how bad the damage is," said Black Cats boss Gus Poyet.
