Sunderland defender O'Shea sets sights on Poland as Republic of Ireland eye automatic qualification

Sunderland defender John O'Shea has set his aim on automatic qualification with the Republic of Ireland for Euro2016.

Ireland shocked world champions Germany 1-0 on Thursday night, and a win against Poland on Sunday would guarantee an automatic path into the UEFA tournament in France next summer.

O'Shea said on Sky Sports: "We wanted to get it back in our hands and now we've stepped up again tonight and showed we can go on to get automatic qualification.

"(Poland have) got some good players but we've shown tonight we can mix it with the best."

Shane Long scored the only goal as the Irish defeated Die Mannschaft in front of a strong crowd at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
