Sunderland defender Ferdinand upset having Michael Jackson tribute stopped

Anton Ferdinand was upset his goal for Sunderland in their win over Tottenham was ruled out - because it prevented him celebrating with his Michael Jackson tribute!

Ferdinand fired home a rare goal to put Sunderland 3-0 ahead - and was half-way through his Michael Jackson routine before he noticed the officials had ruled the effort out.

Fraizer Campbell was adjudged to have fouled Spurs keeper Heurelho Gomes, cruelly denying Ferdinand a first goal in more than two years.

"As just about everyone at the game saw, I thought the goal was fine until about five minutes later, when I was off with my celebration and realised the goal didn't stand!" Ferdinand told safc.com.

"These things happen in football.

"The referee said Fraizer was holding Gomes down; Fraizer said he didn't and when I watched it back later there didn't seem to be too much wrong.

"I'm a bit gutted, but then again if that sort of thing was going to happen to anyone, it would be me!"
