Sunderland are confident of securing Lee Cattermole to a new deal.

Cattermole is one of a quartet of players about to enter the final 12 months of their current deals on Wearside - Steven Fletcher, Vito Mannone and Adam Johnson the others.

The Evening Chronicle says the Wearside hierarchy is confident Stockton-born Cattermole will sign a contract extension.

While Sunderland are desperate to keep Cattermole, the futures of the other three players about to enter the final year of their contracts are less clear-cut.
