Sunderland boss Gus Poyet feels Leeds United must build themselves back up gradually.
Sunderland knocked out Leeds from the FA Cup on the weekend.
Poyet said: "It is a massive club but depending on how you maintain the club you can pay the price.
"Maybe they would prefer one or two years in the Champions League and three or four in the Championship, who knows?
"I don't, I would prefer to build slowly and when you get there it is because you have done things right.
"It was tough when we were there. The most difficult part of administration is not the football club or supporters, it is the people in the office.
"Nobody thinks about that. They think football is about 11 players on the pitch and the 20,000-30,000 supporters. No, more than half the people working for Leeds lost their jobs and that was hard."
