Sunderland boss Gus Poyet insists new signing Ricky Alvarez is a different player compared with Liverpool striker Fabio Borini.
Alvarez is in contention for a start at home to Tottenham on Saturday but Poyet does not want fans to make direct comparisons with Borini.
"People will think Ricky is a substitute for him but he's not," said Poyet.
"Ricky is a player who is exciting on the ball and who will create things on his own but he is not a proper scorer.
"We can't say he is replacing Borini.
"He may well play in a position where Fabio played last year but I don't know if he will play on the left all the time."
