Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has explained releasing Danny Graham on-loan to Wolves.
Graham left for Wolves last week.
"We go with four strikers and they all want to play in the middle," Poyet said.
"We've been using Connor Wickham as an outlet in the position where Fabio Borini was last year, but I know he wants to play in the middle as well.
"It was a difficult situation for Danny to go into the team. You need something to happen - a cup game where you play and show something different, an injury, a sending-off, to have a chance.
"We didn't have enough time for Danny to have that opportunity, but he has been training very well and showing why he has been in the Barclays Premier League for a few years.
"The main thing here is to play and get back to a fully match-fit situation."
