Sunderland boss Steve Bruce aims to sign on-loan Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari in the summer for £8 million.
Bruce was delighted with Muntari's debut in the 3-2 defeat at Stoke City and insists he feels at home alongside fellow Black Stars team mates Asamoah Gyan and John Mensah.
Bruce said: "The kid has taken a huge wage cut to come here. There was no way we could match the wages he was paid without the player making it work.
"We would love to do the deal. But it is up to Sulley and how he enjoys it here.
"Bringing him here is a statement of intent.
"When I came here I don't think too many people envisaged us taking a player from Inter Milan."
