Sullivan admits West Ham dithered over deal for Everton's Jelavic

West Ham United chief David Sullivan admits they blew their chance to land Everton striker Nikica Jelavic.

Jelavic has been a sensation for Everton after joining in January from Rangers.

Sullivan revealed: "Nikica Jelavic [who scored 11 goals in 19 games after a January move to Everton from Scottish side Rangers] was one that got away.

"None of us had sufficient knowledge of Scottish football or had seen him play enough games. It was a big gamble for a lot of money, £5.5million. And, in retrospect, we made a mistake."
