Sturridge risks missing Liverpool's Champions League return

Daniel Sturridge is struggling to make Liverpool's return to the Champions League.

The Liverpool Echo says Sturridge was back at Melwood on Saturday for further assessment after pulling out of the squad for England's opening Euro 2016 qualifier in Switzerland on Monday.

The striker was sent for scans after complaining of a thigh problem during training at the national team's St George's Park base on Friday.

Sturridge is almost certainly out of the Reds' home Premier League game against unbeaten Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

And with Liverpool still to determine the extent of the damage, the 25-year-old is in danger of being sidelined for the Anfield side's first Champions League game in almost five years when Brendan Rodgers' men entertain Ludogorets of Bulgaria three days later.
