AS Roma have kicked off talks with Manchester United striker Robin van Persie.Sportitalia says Roma are planning a major striker signing this summer and contact has already been made with the Dutchman.

Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman has also been speaking with Van Persie about life in Italy.

Van Persie has just over a year to run on his current deal and is expected to be sold this summer.

Aston Villa centre-forward Christian Benteke and Porto's Jackson Martinez are also under consideration.
