Gordon Strachan says he would a brilliant Scotland side if football was based on attacking players who are deployed in behind the striker.
Strachan has a plethora of wingers and attacking midfielders but struggles to find any quality central defenders or holding mids which he says are not really a dime a dozen in the Scottish ranks.
"We send the scouts out and there is nothing there," he said.
"Give me four players I've not seen, tell me about them. I'll go and watch them.
"We have a lovely band who can play just off the striker - guys like Robert Snodgrass, Kris Commons, Shaun Maloney, Chris Burke, Steven Naismith, Ross McCormack and James Forrest.
"If you could only needed players in that role we'd have a lovely team. But we are short of central midfielders. I would also like more cover at the back in the centre of defence."
