Strachan confident Sunderland's Fletcher will break Scotland shackles

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan is supremely confident that Steven Fletcher will soon turn around his international scoring fortunes.

The Sunderland striker, 28, has just one goal in 19 internationals with his only strike for Scotland coming in April 2009 against Iceland in World Cup 2010 qualifying.

?Fletcher again drew a blank in Wednesday night's 1-0 friendly win over Northern Ireland in Glasgow but his boss Strachan was not disappointed by his performance.

?"There was lovely movement and link-up play and all Steven is needing is a goal," he said.

"But I don't think that is affecting his touch or his willingness to slide into tackles. So if you don't have your goalscoring boots on then you dig in and do something else for the team.

"We get more goals from other areas of the team rather than an out-and-out striker.

"Steven is terrific to watch. He is elegant, he's clever, and brings people into play.

"You can trust him when the ball goes up beside him. But I would like to see more people round about him."

?Fletcher will get the chance to add to his solitary international goal when Scotland meet Gibraltar in Euro2016 qualifying in Glasgow on Sunday.?
