Stoke wrapping up deal for Aussie striker Peter Skapetis

Stoke City are swooping for Aussie striker Peter Skapetis.

Skapetis is a free agent after being released by QPR and has already announced his signing via Twitter.

Potters boss Mark Hughes declined to comment on claims that Skapetis has already joined Stoke from QPR in a £300,000 deal, but does anticipate the 19-year-old striker arriving to boost Stoke's development squad next season.

"We need to get more under-21 guys for next season," he explained, "because our development squad is currently looking a bit thin, so we need more numbers and more depth."

He said development coach Glynn Hodges, who worked with Skapetis at QPR, was the driving force behind the move.

He added: "Glynn has done really well behind the scenes in his first year with us here at Stoke.

"He's a really important link between me and the Academy, and a bridge to help young players try and make that transition from the development squad to the senior squad."
