Stoke striker Diouf's mother killed in Mecca crush

The mother of Stoke City striker Mame Biram Diouf was among those killed in the crush on the outskirts of Mecca last month, it has been confirmed, reports the London Evening Standard.

Gnilane Diouf was one of over 700 people fatally injured in Mina on the outskirts of the holy city on September 24.

The striker's sister was also present, but it is understood she escaped with minor injuries.

Today, Stoke City offered its 'sincere condolences' to their player via the club's official website.

"Stoke City wish to extend sincere condolences to Mame Diouf following the tragic death of his mother," a club statement read.

"The Club will provide Mame with all the support he needs at this extremely difficult time and our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and friends."
