Charlie Adam has played down his stunning strike against, claiming he would rather have won the game than scored the goal. The Potters were trailing to an Eden Hazard penalty when the Scotland international spotted home keeper Thibaut Courtois playing his traditional 'sweeper role' and tried his luck from fully 65 metres.
"It's one of these things that happened in the game that you don't seen very often and lucky enough it was me who managed to do it," Adam told Sky Sports News HQ.
"Jamie Carragher pointed out the other day that you can try and try and you can have a few bad efforts - which happens - but the thing is I've always had the character to step up and try it again.
"Lucky enough it went in and it was a great goal but the disappointing thing was we lost the game and I've always said that winning the game would have been more important than scoring that goal."
While his effort has jumped to the front of goal of the year contenders, Adam said every player has had occasion to consider a long-range shot and that he was simply fortunate enough to see Courtois standing at the edge of the 18-yard box.
"You always have a look to see and he was so far off his line, and I just thought why not? Stamford Bridge, at the Champions to be, and lucky enough for me it went in."
