Stoke have no intentions of selling Roma, Liverpool targets Shawcross, Begovic

Mark Hughes has made it vehemently clear that Stoke City have no plans to sell any of their key players this winter.

Captain Ryan Shawcross has again been linked with a shock January move to Italian club Roma while goalkeeper Begovic remains a reported target for Liverpool.

However, Hughes suggests that both players will remain at the Britannia Stadium for the at least the remainder of the season and possibly for the foreseeable future.

"There's speculation about the best players at most clubs and the two you mentioned are in that bracket from our point of view," he said when quizzed by reporters regarding the rumours.

"We're not encouraging any bids on any of our players and that won't change in January, and it won't change in the summer.

"Other clubs might have something to say about that and they may be persistent but we've had no bids for those two players up to this point and I don't anticipate we will have bids in the January window either."

In regard to Bosnia international Begovic, who comes out of contract in the summer of 2016, Hughes added: "There are discussions (about an extension) but I don't think it's progressed further than that.

"There's no real timescale but the closer the contract comes to running down, the more the power shifts away from us as a club and closer to the player and his representatives."
