Stoke clash a good chance for Birmingham players to stake Wembley claim

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish will use this Saturday's home clash with Stoke City as a good chance to run the rule over his Carling Cup players.

The Blues meet Arsenal in the final of the league cup at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, February 27 and McLeish is still looking to finalise his starting line-up with the Potters clash a good place to start to see where his players are.

"Nothing is set in stone," said McLeish. "I can't keep every player happy and there will be players disappointed when they're not in the starting line-up and disappointed when they're not on the bench.

"But I've been doing it for a long time now and it's never easy telling a player he's not playing, but it's part of the job.

"It's around the corner but they know full well the Premier League is vital for us and the significance of these games coming up you have to approach these games like cup finals."
