Stoke almost land killer blow with another long throw

Stoke City again scored from their notorious long throw-ins against Burnley on Wednesday night.

Although the match ended 1-1 after David Nugent cancelled out Tuncay Sanli's opener, Clarets boss Brian Laws rued the fact that his team almost came undone by the Potters' set piece.

"We are not the only ones who are going to fall foul to it," Laws told Sky Sports.

"We dealt with everything else but we got sucked into the first one - the fact is four players surrounded one player - that was our downfall, if we had just stayed in our units like we had been working on, the goal would not have happened."

But Laws was happy his team was able to fight back and delight Nugent was able to score again, following up his goal from Saturday's loss to Arsenal.

"But the players didn't let the goal affect them and they stepped up another gear and took the game right to Stoke. They are a very good side, but I think they will know they were in a game in the second half," he added.

"Of course you want your strikers to be on form and he did well and we are going to take a lot into our next game, particularity the drive and commitment.

"All of these games are cup finals and this was the first of 10, so we knew what to expect and we will go into the next game with a lot more belief than if we had lost the game."
