Barcelona legend Hristo Stoichkov has heaped praise on Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho. The pair worked together at Barca, where Mourinho was No2 to Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.

Stoichkov told Sport: "Do not think that Mourinho was a simple translator or deputy, he was already the coach. Mourinho understood everything and knew everything about our team and opponents."

On Van Gaal, the Bulgarian blasted: "I have no respect for him, he is an ordinary person.

"One day I was injured, I went with my wife to the stadium. He walked over to us and asked my wife how she had married someone like me. She replied that I had already won a Golden Ball ..."
