Stevenage have rejected reports boss Graham Westley has agreed terms to become manager at League One rivals Preston. On Wednesday, The Comet claimed a deal had been done.

However, in a statement on their official website, Stevenage confirmed Westley has not yet struck a deal with the Lilywhites, although the club revealed they are resigned to losing assistant John Dreyer and first-team coach Dino Maamria if their manager heads to Lancashire.

The statement read: "Stevenage FC are waiting to hear whether manager Graham Westley is staying at the club or leaving for Preston North End. It is understood that personal terms have been offered by Preston, but not yet agreed by Westley.

"Only then can a matter of compensation to release the Stevenage manager from his contract be discussed between the clubs. It is understood that the management team of John Dreyer and Dino Maamria will follow Westley to Preston if terms are agreed."

Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace added: "It's uncomfortably late in the week for both clubs not to know where they stand, but there's nothing we can do until Graham decides where he wants to work. Only then can we get on with the task of replacing him if that becomes necessary. If he stays then it's business as usual."
