Sterling's 'messy' Liverpool situation is 'unnecessary' - Molby

Liverpool legend Jan Molby has labelled Raheem Sterling's current contract situation at Anfield 'unnecessary'.

Sterling's agent Aidy Ward declared yesterday, "He [Sterling] is definitely not signing. He's not signing for £700, £800, £900 thousand a week. He is not signing."

Ex-Anfield defender Jamie Carragher has also chimed in on the issue, suggesting that Sterling is 'taking on' the Liverpool Football Club.

Former Reds star Molby feels the whole contract saga involving the 20-year old England winger could have been avoided.

The Dane wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo: 'The Raheem Sterling row has become a very messy situation and it's all very unnecessary.

'He's a young player who has still got another two years left on his current contract and everyone wants the situation sorted so we can move on.

'Surely Sterling's agent realises that Jamie Carragher's comments were given as a Liverpool former player and a fan rather than as an expert - he spoke from the heart like most Reds do.'
