Former Palermo coach Stefano Colantuono has lifted the lid on his old players at the Rosanero. Colantuono, who was sacked and then reinstated by Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini TWICE, including for just one game this season, hints his former squad is underperforming this season.
Why are Palermo struggling away from home this season?
I do not know what issues are affecting their away performances. Sometimes you have inconsistency in performances because the championship is so difficult. As time goes by, Palermo can improve this issue, they just need experience.
Tell us about Palermo defender Moris Carrozzieri, who has been linked with big clubs in Italy and England.
I never had doubts about Moris, he is one of my faithful. Someone, but I do not want to name names, had questioned his ability (when I was at Palermo) but maybe now they understand the player's merits. I am very happy for him. For me, it is just a confirmation of what I thought. At first he was questioned, but now he is finally showing his value.
And what about the prospects of young Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani?
I have always said that Edy has not even reached his 'first' peak. He's a player who has a tremendous physical power, he must make the most of his great pace. If he plays away from the goal, you're not making the most of his features.
But if this type of play has been done since the start of this championship, it means he's helping the team a lot and he's showing his full quality.
Why is Andrea Raggi not living up to expectations since his move from Empoli?
Raggi is not playing because Mattia Cassani is having a super Serie A season. To me he's a great player, not that I want to underestimate his characteristics, but he does need to play. Physically he's similar to Carrozzieri, and if he's not playing with continuity he cannot prove his value.
Everyone should have patience with him, because even in the past Luigi Cagni (former coach of Raggi at Empoli) always spoke well of him to me.
There was talk of you moving to Lazio in the summer
The Biancoceleste bench? I'll be a good person and not speak about that! This summer I decided to stay in Palermo believing that there were going to be other chances, without listening to the rumours. Frankly speaking I had contacts, but I will not say if they were with Lazio or with other teams.
The only interest for me was to stay in Palermo, but then you know how that finished up.
