Standard Liege announce deal for Wolves fullback Van Damme

Standard Liege have announced an agreement for Wolves defender Jelle van Damme.

Despite Wolves manager Mick McCarthy angrily insisting Van Damme was 'going nowhere' last month, Standard announced on their official website that transfer talks had been concluded and that a press conference was being arranged to unveil the 27-year old defender as their player on a four-year contract.

The statement added that Van Damme, a £2.5million signing from Anderlecht last summer, was undergoing a medical at the University Hospital of Liege and was due to appear at a press briefing at the club's Academy Robert Louis-Dreyfus at 5.30 yesterday afternoon.

The fee has yet to be disclosed, though it is clear Wolves were hoping to recoup as much of their £2.5million outlay as possible.

Sources in Belgium believe he will remain in Liege and train there, prior to the transfer window opening in January and allowing him to play for Standard.
