Former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam believes Louis van Gaal is capable of bringing the Premier League title back to Old Trafford.
Stam was part of United's 1999 Treble winning team.
He told the Daily Express: "Expectations are very high because of what Van Gaal has done in the past," said Stam, now reserve team coach at Ajax.
"It's normal that the fans and the media expected United to win the League straight away but it is not easy to go to England and immediately win the title, especially if you are bringing in new players and building a new team.
"But knowing Van Gaal, he is the type of manager who can build a team quite quickly and when he took the job he will have talked about the plan with the board. They know what he is trying to do and what he is capable of.
"Van Gaal is the type of manager who always wants to win the League. He has done it everywhere else he has worked, at big clubs like Ajax, Barcelona and Bayern Munich and even at a smaller club like AZ Alkmaar."
