Spurs striker Berbatov: I want to be like Hoddle, Ginola

Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov admits he wants to entertain fans like former favourites Glenn Hoddle and David Ginola.

His trickery, flicks, touches and precise passing helped Spurs to a 2-1 victory over Manchester City at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

And the Bulgaria international forward revealed his philosophy towards the game when he said: "Entertaining the fans is what football is all about.

"When you do some beautiful things on the pitch and you hear the crowd applaud, I really like that and it makes you want to do more.

"Of course I like scoring goals but sometimes you can get more pleasure from playing that difficult or clever pass which leads to a goal than actually scoring the goal itself."

And Berbatov added in the latest Tottenham matchday programme: "That's just my opinion but it is how I like to play the game. When you go onto the pitch and you are calm and concentrating on the game, you try to entertain.

"If you can trust and believe in your ability, that's when you feel fulfilled. I know all about Tottenham's tradition for playing the beautiful game. I speak to past players and fans and they tell me about the players who used to play for Tottenham, the style of football they played - the likes of David Ginola and Glenn Hoddle, players who enjoyed the game."
