Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy sacked Tim Sherwood face-to-face yesterday. The London Evening Standard says he learned his fate at a 45-minute meeting with chairman Levy at the club's training ground in Enfield, north London, yesterday morning.
The 45-year-old's record - he averaged 1.91 points per game in the Premier League - was deemed insufficient for him to retain the Spurs job.
Sherwood was said to be relatively sanguine this morning despite his dismissal, which came as no surprise to the former development coach. After meeting Levy, he lingered to say goodbye to staff but throughout his short tenure Sherwood has been disappointed by a lack of public backing at boardroom level.
He has been resigned to his fate for some time and his mindset was reinforced when he communicated more thoughts on the future to his employers last week but received no reply.
