Tottenham made a sensational move for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres yesterday. Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas saw the transfer deadline fall last night without his desired striker signing, but it was not for want of trying.
Sky Italia says AVB made an attempt to sign Torres by offering Emmanuel Adebayor in a straight swap.
But Blues manager Jose Mourinho shut down the deal, despite being a fan of Adebayor. The Portuguese felt he was too similar to Demba Ba, having already released Romelu Lukaku on-loan to Everton.
