Sporting Kansas City in pursuit of Hamburg ace van der Vaart

Sporting Kansas City officials travelled to Germany on the weekend as they continued their pursuit of Hamburg's Rafael van der Vaart.

Reports suggest that the MLS club are showing significant interest in the 32-year old Holland international and met with Hamburg regarding the possibility of a future move to the USA.

Hamburg expert Daniel Busch posted on Twitter that SKC had made the trip to Hamburg to speak with the Bundesliga club about the availability of the former Ajax, Real Madrid and Tottenham attacking midfielder.

Van der Vaart is out of contract with Die Rothosen in the summer but it is believed that clubs in Italy and Spain, as well as former outfit Ajax, will provide competition for the 2012 MLS Cup winners.

Additionally, SKC president Robb Heineman tweeted that he went to watch van der Vaart in action against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday but suggested that the World Cup runner-up was 'definitely on the radar' but a deal was 'not imminent'.
