MLS club Sporting Kansas City will continue to monitor the progress of Ecuadorian striker Franklin Salas according to head coach Peter Vermes.

The 29-year old Quito man is on trial with the club and although he found it tough going in a pre-season friendly draw with Columbus Crew, Vermes says he will need time to adapt and will give him that chance.

"I think he is definitely more of an attacking player who likes to come inside. It's a little different for him playing in our system because of what we require and the team he comes from. He's having a little bit of a rough time with the physicality and speed of the game, which is how it tends to be with foreign players," he told the Kansas City Star.

"But you have to evaluate whether those guys are able to adjust quickly and, once they do, whether they will have a strong impact on the game."
