Sporting Kansas City boss Vermes attracting Premier League interest

Peter Vermes has emerged as a possible target for clubs in the English Premier League.

According to the Kansas City Star, the Sporting Kansas City head coach has attracted interest from a duo of English top flight outfits as well as one European national team.

The report in the Star read: "Two English Premier League teams used agents last week to gauge Vermes' willingness to depart Kansas City."

Before adding: "A European country's men's national team has expressed interest in Vermes taking over its coaching duties and replicating his player development model on an international level."

Former USA international Vermes, who has been at the helm at SKC since 2009, admitted the interest had captivated him but was not getting too serious regarding a possible departure from Children's Mercy Park.

"When anybody is interested in you, you would be lying if you said it wasn't intriguing," he said.

"At this moment, my focus is on Sporting Kansas City."

Vermes has won one MLS Cup, two Lamar Hunt US Open Cups and has twice finished runners-up in the Supporters' Shield with SKC since he took over.
