Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni is grateful to manager Alan Pardew for his support in recent weeks.

Speroni has thanked Pardew for publicly backing him after his error against Southampton.

"I am really pleased with what the manager has said. It makes me feel really good. I am not surprised [about the criticism] because I made a mistake. It is as simple as that. You are going to make mistakes as a goalkeeper but one or two in the last 10 years is not too bad!

"In football, you have to judge a goalkeeper over a period of time and I am pleased with my performances this season.

"If one or two things go against you, there is no reason to panic. You have to show what you are about. You always have to be on your toes because goalkeepers are always competing for that one spot."
