Spanish giants Real Madrid enter partnership with South Melbourne

Victorian state side South Melbourne has unveiled a partnership with European giants Real Madrid, as Los Blancos arrived in Melbourne for the International Champions Cup.

South, who compete in the Victorian branch of the National Premier Leagues, were named as the Oceania Team of the Century at a World Football Gala event in London in 2010, while at the same event, Real Madrid took out the European Team of the Century award.

The remarkable partnership will see Madrid join South in an event commemorating the history of each club, with the event to be held during the 10-time European champion's stay in Melbourne.

"As we all know, Real Madrid is one of the biggest clubs and brands in world football and to have them open their doors to South Melbourne FC is greatly appreciated," SMFC Director and Major Sponsor Andrew Mesourouni told smfc.com.au.

"It is quite exciting that as a club, we can return the favour and allow Real Madrid to use our facilities when they are in Melbourne.

"Building a relationship and partnership with such a huge club like Real Madrid can only be good for us, so we are more than happy to do whatever we can to look after them during their stay in Melbourne."

Real Madrid arrived in Melbourne on Tuesday ahead of this Saturday's International Champion Cup clash with Roma at the MCG.
