Spalletti: Roma players must accept jeers

Roma coach Luciano Spalletti accepted the jeers of fans after they struggled to see off Catania 4-3 last night.

"The team fought hard in the first half in an organised fashion, then when the match seemed to be won that allowed concentration and the tempo to drop," said the Coach.

"We played a superficial game and made some silly mistakes, whereas Catania showed that same great spirit that has helped them all season and managed to equalise.

"At that point it became more difficult, as over-confidence transforms into fear of losing. Despite it all, the side kept pushing and in the end deserved the victory."

The Stadio Olimpico jeered its squad from start to finish - including the warm-up - and Spalletti refused to condemn the fans.

"The supporters expected more. I think they have accepted this campaign, so we must accept a few jeers. We know everything our fans do comes from how much they care and that is why we can work through it even during the difficult times."
