Spain coach Luis Enrique: Long ball Sweden just defend and defend

Spain coach Luis Enrique hit out at Sweden's "long ball" tactics after last night's 0-0 draw for their Euros opener.

Enrique was left frustrated with the result and the opposition's approach.

He said, “We were superior to the opponent, who decided to defend and defend, and created danger from long balls and they were nearly able to win. It's unfair, I feel bad for the players and the fans but we won't stop trying."

Spain did not score and that has been a problem for La Roja.

The former Barcelona coach stated, “It's always the same. When you don't score they ask you if you are worried, and when you concede, the same. What we try to do is generate chances, but we didn't finish them. With a lot of bad luck, I've lost games of this type.

“The pitch did not help much, the players have complained in the dressing room. We need it to be in better condition, that's not an excuse."

On Juventus striker Alvaro Morata, who was whistled, Enrique said: “I've seen they applauded him, I focus on that. As a coach I have to protect a lot of things. Alvaro was good in attack and defence and he has to play with this handicap. I liked more the applause, but he has personality and he's used to it."
