England coach Gareth Southgate was in Italy last night to see AS Roma's draw with Inter Milan.
The Daily Mail says Southgate travelled to Italy to watch Chris Smalling play Roma in their 0-0 draw at Inter.
Smalling, 30, has impressed since joining Roma on loan from Manchester Uninted in the summer, scoring two goals in 11 games and helping his club to fourth in Serie A.
Southgate dropped Smalling in November 2017 and cited doubts over his ability to play out from the back, but the 49-year-old and assistant Steve Holland were in Milan for the top-of-the-table clash.
Smalling played his last game for England in June 2017
