Southampton to offer Townsend pathway out of Tottenham

Southampton are set to make a winter offer for Tottenham outcast Andros Townsend.

Multiple reports suggest that Saints boss Ronald Koeman wants the 24-year-old winger at St Mary's as he looks to strengthen his squad which has dropped off the pace in recent weeks.

Townsend has been frozen out by Mauricio Pochettino this term with the Argentine handing him just three substitute appearances in the Premier League so far.

The Saints, who went after 10-time England international Townsend in the summer of 2014 but were unsuccessful with their £10million proposal, are hoping the lure of regular football will help land the talented wide man.

Townsend, who is also a target for Newcastle United and Bournemouth, is determined to force his way into Roy Hodgson's Three Lions squad for Euro2016 and is almost certain to leave White Hart Lane in January in a bid to make that happen.
