Southampton boss Nigel Adkins is eyeing Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel.

The Mirror says veteran American Friedel, 41, has been dropped in favour of expensive French signing Hugo Lloris while Adkins ponders what to do about his last line of defence.

Adkins has used last season's first choice Kelvin Davis, young Argentine Paulo Gazzaniga and Polish international Artur Boruc already and has not been convinced any are up to the job.

Saints may step in with a loan offer and make the move permanent in January.
