Southampton star Djenepo donates thousands to hometown in Mali

Southampton ace Moussa Djenepo has donated health kits that are worth thousands of pounds to his home town in Mali.

Djenepo was born in Mopti, a southern Malian city. And he has spent roughly £2,650 on soap, masks, hand sanitiser and buckets that will help citizens in the area.

The nation is suffering, as is most of the world, from the COVID-19 outbreak.

Djenepo's dad Bayon handed out the kits recently.

He said during a ceremony: "Moussa owes everything to Mopti. He wanted to support his home town at a time when the Covid-19 virus is shaking the world.

"His gesture is meant to support the Mali government's efforts against the pandemic.

"Last week his aid was destined for the health ministry, and now this is for his birthplace."
