Southampton's Ward-Prowse nets late winner as England U21s edge Germany

England's U21 side got the better of Germany's U21s in an international friendly at the Riverside Stadium on Monday night.

Gareth Southgate's Young Lions produced a solid performance to beat die Mannschaft 3-2 in Middlesbrough as they continue their preparation for this summer's UEFA European U21 Championship in the Czech Republic.

Manchester United's Jesse Lingard, who is on loan at Derby County, levelled for England after Philipp Hofmann's opener before the FC Kaiserslautern man put the Germans ahead for a second time with a nice finish from the edge of the area.

Norwich City winger Nathan Redmond equalized again for England in the 79th minute before Southampton's James Ward-Prowse found a winner in the 82nd minute.

The England U21 team open their Euro2015 campaign with a June 18 meeting with Portugal in Uherske Hradiste.
