Championship side Southampton have rejected an opening offer from Liverpool for Romeo Lavia.

The young midfielder is the subject of real interest from the Anfield club, who want him to refresh their midfield.

Per The Mail, a bid region of £35 million plus-add ons was flatly rejected by the Saints hierarchy.

The club are willing to sell Lavia, who they are aware does not want to play in the Championship.

However, any sale will be on the club's terms, as they are seeking around £50 million for the 19-year-old.

Liverpool are ready to come in with a second offer, but whether they will reach the Saints' asking price is unclear.
