Southampton and Reading are chasing Birmingham City defender Curtis Davies.

The Mirror says former Aston Villa star Davies, 27, has been on Saints' hit-list since the summer.

Reading boss Brian McDermott also wants the centre-back, who can offer some much-needed top-flight experience to his drop-zone strugglers.

McDermott said: "We want to bring in two or three players who have played in the Premier League before."
