Southampton midfielder Romeu: Let's beat Brentford - and Spurs

Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu hopes to see action tonight against Carabao Cup opponents Brentford.

After the opening day defeat to Crystal Palace, the 28-year-old is aware of the importance of the next two games.

He told the club's website, “We were going [to Crystal Palace] convinced that we wanted to do well and get points. We couldn't do that.

“We will go again and try to get a win against Brentford in midweek, and then a massive one is coming at home against Tottenham. I'm sure the team will stand up and come back."

Romeu echoed his manager's sentiment in wanting to get back to the performance levels that Saints enjoyed towards the end of last season.

Brentford have done very well in the past in the Championship, and they have a good team, so it's going to be a challenging one at home.

“Then Tottenham have done some good work in the summer and they're going to try to do very well this season.

“I'm sure we can do very well against both of them. We want to have that feeling that we can compete against any team and give problems to anyone. I'm sure we will get that very soon."
