Southampton are launching a bid for Racing Club midfielder Carlos Alcaraz.

The Telegraph says the 20-year-old defensive midfielder is an ambitious target for Saints.

Alcaraz has been tracked by a number of big European clubs since bursting onto the scene in Argentina and now the Saints could firm up their interest.

It would surely represent somewhat of a gamble though with Southampton currently rooted to the foot of the Premier League table.

The club need points fast and while Alcaraz remains a player for the future, Southampton need some experience to deliver results.
