Alex McCarthy is the frontrunner to replace Simon Mignolet at Liverpool.

The Reds are on the lookout for a back-up goalkeeper after they allowed Mignolet to join Club Brugge on Sunday.

The Liverpool Echo says McCarthy is the most likely man for the job.

The Englishman was left out of the Saints squad for Saturday's friendly win over Koln.

Liverpool have also considered several free agent options, including former West Ham shot-stopper Adrian.
