Sadio Mane was taken by surprise when informed his hat-trick today against Aston Villa was the fastest in Premier League history.
The Southampton attacker's treble, struck in two minutes and 56 seconds, bettered the league's previous best of four minutes and 33 seconds set by Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler against Arsenal in 1994.
"Really?" smiled Mane. "Well, I'm happy."
The winger continued: "The most important thing was the victory because for the past few weeks it's been difficult for us.
"I think everyone played well."
Saints thrashed Aston Villa 6-1 today at St Mary's.
